Business: The Engine That Built and Drives Our Society
One of the cornerstones of early civilization was the trading of goods and services. People learned how to produce food and other valuable goods while also developing skills in nearly all areas of human endeavor. As civilizations grew and became more sophisticated, commerce became an integral part of everyday life. Today, business is the foundation of society. Everyone makes their living by providing some sort of labor or skill for business purposes.
Business in the early days of civilization was simple by modern standards. Generally, goods were bartered back and forth between the various tribes and societies. One tribe that had mastered the manufacturing of wheat, for instance, might trade their surplus to another tribe for meat or perhaps weaponry or tools of some sort. Evidence of this early type of business can be found even in the Americas, when certain types of oceanic fish bones were found in areas hundreds of miles inland, while non-indigenous stones could be found at the coastal areas. Items such as seashells and precious stones served as a currency with which goods were often purchased.
As civilization advanced and governmental bodies formed, the business force became a more and more influential force. Many civilizations existed simply because of their strategic location along various trade routes. By the Roman era, business was being conducted on a wide scale and over great distances. Resulting from trade with Asia, the famous Silk Roads were the highways of business and commerce. A village or town could exist, and in some cases thrive, along these commercial roads serving as a trading post or a place for rest and rejuvenation for the long and arduous journeys.
Today, nearly all aspects of life are in one way or another tied directly to business. Most all of us make our living working in business in some manner. Whether you are a CEO of a major multinational corporation or a server at McDonald's, some type of labor or service or skill is being provided to drive the success of a business. Many like to go into business for themselves, allowing them to be their own boss and reap all the rewards of their hard work.
Good or bad, business is the driving force behind our civilization. Without business, where would we work and earn the livings necessary to provide for our families? For more information, please visit www.americanvaluemetrics.com today.
